What is Keep Calm and Create On?

About Keep Calm and Create On

“You must learn to take the talents that you have and create a movement with them.”

Revised and expanded, Keep Calm and Create On: Words of Encouragement from One Artist to the Next, 2nd Edition is designed as a universal self-motivational and transformative tool of written passages for artists and individuals. Newly revised and expanded through 50 passages, these writings can be used as daily inspiration for your artistic journey of self-discovery and purpose. This book is a tool for the "everyday artist". The everyday artist is one who's living within the dichotomy of societal norms versus allowing themselves to be fully submerged in their crafts.

Keep Calm and Create On acknowledges both ends of the spectrum and strives for the reader to stay continually motivated, balanced, and spiritually sound.

Originally starting as a weekly blog in 2014, Author Brittney S. Harris began penning Keep Calm and Create On because she found herself dealing with issues that everyday artists go through on a regular basis: the duality of working a 9-to-5 job only to get off and rehearse or perform until the midnight hour. It was all too familiar!

As a woman of color and as a performer of over 20 years, Harris had her fair share of rejections. Not solely based on race or ethnicity, the industry is so saturated with the overt glamification of women and superficial reality shows displaying more of a distortion of “reality” than truth.

What are readers saying about 'Keep Calm & Create On'?

Reviews & Testimonials

"If you're an artist, this book should be in your supplies! Whether you're thriving and overflowing with opportunity or going through a dry spell, or just somewhere in between! Its encouraging, easy to read and fun! You can read it cover to cover, pick a chapter to read or read a chapter a day and meditate on it. Brittney S. Harris does a wonderful job taking whats familiar and looking at the situation with fresh eyes, whether it's giving new perspective on familiar sayings or finding optimism instead of choosing frustration. She writes as if she is your friend and reminds you to keep creating!"- Deirdre Jones, Actress

"I love the way it was written! Sometimes I would see an ellipse or certain phrases and wonder, "why? Half way through I said to myself, "Its almost like someone is writing a script, and wanted the reader to read with a dramatic pause or to evoke a certain emotion or mannerism. After that personal revelation that reading experience became evermore enjoyable. I was already relating to the content, I was being inspired by that message and then I felt more involved with what I was reading because of those little inserts "(laughs), "There will always be something or someone greater than you...and that is yourself." It was like reading this really inspiring one woman show. I also found myself stopping to think about the questions asked. Like really taking your eyes away from the book and think, "How would I have done it", "What did I do when that happened to me". I loved it."-  Tracie Paige, TV Personality & Vlogger

“This is for everyone not just artists. This book's purpose is to motivate, inspire and entertain. Keep Calm and Create On gives so many valid points for anyone who has a craft or a technique.”

- RaShanda Land, Blogger/Writer of The Plus Size Declaration

“Refreshing, Encouraging, and Motivating. To me, the purpose of this book is to encourage you to push yourself out of your comfort zone and become who you were destined to be. We all need that push and I feel like this book helps push my artistic side not as an artist but as an individual.”- Ge’Rita from GA

“Passion-filled! The most interesting part about this book is the realness: transparency. As an actress I have acting buddies who deal with this. Many people do not understand why we chose this career choice and they think that it’s a waste of time. So to hear and physically see words of affirmation from a fellow thespian who understands my daily struggle is so refreshing.”- Jasmine Gammon, Actress

Powerful and simplistic. In my opinion, this book was written to keep us motivated as artists. So many times it becomes easy to get distracted or discouraged this book points out principles that we already, yet holds a purpose in reminding us that we are creators. The title is perfect for the purpose of the book. As artists we get anxious at times, especially when we're unclear about our path. But we do need to in fact learn to stay calm and just create.” Tatina Cowell, Director and Writer.

“Straight with no chaser. This book displays the fact that we ALL have similar sentiments about this acting hustle and we should keep pressing on! My favorite passage was "22-Waiting”: it was so applicable to exactly where I am right now in my life and career. We must all learn how to pace ourselves.” Angela Lundy, Actress.

When asked to sum up Keep Calm and Create On in a few words, reader Kristin Hopkins, Social Media Personality and Influencer, said “capturing, inspiring, helpful, and creative! This book reaffirmed that I don't need to be afraid to be myself, and that I should be happy and grateful for the talents that I have to offer.
